The Sox hosted the Swift Current 57’s in a return game from Saturday night which the Sox won 19-1. The Sox jumped out into the lead Sunday afternoon scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Sox added runs in the 4th and 5th innings and lead 4 -0 after 5 innings. Swift Current battled back to tie the game in the 7th inning when Jose Ayala hit a Grand slam homerun to tie the game at 4-4. The game headed to extra innings with both teams starting runners at 2nd base. Swift Current scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 10th to lead 9-6. The situation was looking bleak for the Sox and many fans left early. Poor decision made by those who left. a combination of Jackson Syring starting the inning at 2nd base (ITB rule), Angelo Franco was walked and then Swift Current chose to intentionally walk Kody Hanna. The stage was then set for Jalen Meyers to hit a triple and tie the game. The Sox then proceeded to load the bases for the 2nd time in the inning and Swift Current pitcher Matthew Chandler entered the game where he hit the batter and the Sox runner from 3rd was granted home and the comeback win complete.
Josh Castillo earned the win pitching the 9th and 10th innings for the Sox. Daniel Crabtree pitch 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, one of which was a Grand slam home run. Sox hitters pounded out 11 hits during the game. Jackson Syring hit his 2nd homerun of the year in the 5th inning. Jalen Meyers was named Player of the Game for providing the game tying triple in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Next game is Wednesday when the Sox host Weyburn Beavers in “Rider Pride Night” Rider players, coaches, cheer team and Gainer will be at Currie Field. Autograph station will be set up.
